Gascony's brandy, and older than Cognac. One year in oak rather than two, ten permitted grapes rather than six — Baco among them, which Cognac forbids and which is the one grape that tells you which of the two you are holding. The still is the difference everyone cites and it is not actually a rule: the alambic armagnaçais distils continuously through up to fifteen plates, but a double-distilling pot still is permitted as well.
